Application for Security Guard Security License
Check List

Application forms may be found by visiting the Resources column to your right. The forms can also be obtained through the B C Ministry of Public Safety website with this link at: www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/security industry.

  1. Locate “Security Worker-Forms and Guide” mid-way down the page and enter it.

  2. The “Guide or Forms” area is located on the center of that page. Enter Forms.

  3. You will see a panel highlighting various forms.  You can enter the Forms by entering on the form number on the right side of the panel.

  4. You will need:

    • 1st. Application for New Security Worker License form #SPD0503.
    • 2nd. Request for Fingerprinting form #SPD0507.
    • 3rd. If you wish to use a credit card in lieu of a certified cheque or money order you will need the Authorized Credit Card Usage Form for Security Workers, form #SPD0508.
    • 4th. If you have/had experienced psychiatric or possess a mental condition you will need to use form #SPD0511.

    • Note all forms at this location are PDF format and may complete prior to being printed.

  5. Complete all forms as required.  Check off the boxes for Security Guard as well as Private Investigator Under Supervision.

    Note: your Email address is important, as you will receive notice prior to getting your hardcopy license in the mail.  When you get the photocopy you may apply for and work in security.

  6. After completing the Request for Fingerprinting form #SPD0507 goes to the local police station and have your fingerprints taken.  It will cost approx. $37.00 and you can pay with cash or bank card. Important: ensure you are provided the bottom portion of the second page.  This will accompany your application to the registrar.

  7. Obtain a single passport photograph. This will accompany your application to the registrar also.  Photos may be obtained through Costco ($ 7.50), London Drugs ($ 12.00),  Wal-Mart ($ 10.00) or any other commercial photographer ($ 12.00 to $ 17:00+)

  8. You will also need a photocopy of your BC driver’s license or I D or any other Gov’t issued photo I D.  This will accompany your application to the registrar.

  9. Provide a clear photocopy of your Birth Certificate. . This will accompany your application to the registrar.

  10. Make Certified cheques payable to the “Minister of Finance of B C”

  11. Place all items in a clearly marked envelope and mail the application and all appropriate  ID to:

    Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Policing and Community Safety Branch, Security Programs and Police technology Division, P O Box 9217 Stn. Prov. Gov’t., Victoria B. C. . V8W  9J1

  12. You will receive notice by email approx. two to six weeks after your application.  .  When you get the Email copy, print it.   You may now apply for and work in security.
